WHERE ARE WE

Moosonee, Ontario - As shown by the map above, we are on the fringe of James Bay, on the Hudson Bay Lowlands, where the Moose River runs into the Bay. We are 186 miles North of Cochrane, Ontario, which is our gateway for getting all puppies, that are not able to be placed at homes in the community, to homes in the rest of Ontario. The train takes 5 hours on average to go either way.

Our Community - Moosonee is home to some 1800-2000 people, and Moose Factory across the river, home to about 2500 people. Summers here can be hot, temperatures sometimes reaching 34-36 degrees. In Complete contrast, the winters here can be cold and harsh, with tempreatures dipping to -40 overnight and daytime highs of -30, and wind-chills aproaching -55, making it hard or impossible for a dog or puppie to survive for more than a couple hours outside. If a dog is fortunate enough to survive the elements outdoors for a long period of time, in most cases, that cold will have already taken its toll on paws and tails. Tails having to be docked due to the cold has been seen here, as well as frostbitten paws and pads.
